If you have been keeping up with Lindby for the past few years, you will likely know of our drummer, Jared: a classically trained percussionist from the Houston area.

The other three members of Lindby and myself met Jared in the UTA choir a few years back when we found ourselves, yet again, drummer-less (Jared’s predecessor found himself married and back in his homeland of San Antonio a few months before Jared arrived). He overheard us contemplating leads and was quick to pipe up in regards to his abilities and training.

Might I add that he had just arrived at school, while we were all in our third or fourth year at school. I’m not sure I would have had the guts to confront a bunch of crazed upperclassmen just a few weeks into the college experience, so kudos to to Jared for that.

Life, of course, takes its twists and turns, and, for the time being at least, Jared has concluded that college just isn’t the right fit. This decision has ultimately led to his return to the Houston area.

For awhile, we tried to make the logistics work, but it turned out to be unfair to both us and Jared – having a drummer once every few weeks and ridiculous gas bills/drives times respectively.

Luckily, Melissa, my girlfriend and an excellent photographer, works with a rather crazy fellow named Tanner. I had had the good fortune to jam with him and a few of his friends, but little else had evolved from it up to that point.

After consulting the rest of Lindby, we decided to have him over for a few practices just to see what would unfold. A bit of stylistic refining and mastery of songs later, we find ourselves in the position to announce that Tanner will be taking over after Jared’s last show on September 30th at the Cellar. Check out the events page for more details.

Jared took our sound to a whole new level with his tight playing, classical training, and his ability to add drums that complimented the song rather than overshadow what’s already there.

He will be missed, but now we must look to the birth of the 17th iteration of Lindby (hence the title of this post).

Tanner is coming. Be ready.
